Lao Stilt House – A Symbol of Culture and Spirituality in the Heart of Buon Don
A New Cultural Highlight at Buon Don Island Village
The Buon Don Suspension Bridge Tourism Center warmly invites visitors and Buddhist devotees from near and far to visit the Lao Stilt House – a cultural and spiritual landmark located on Ay No Island within Buon Don Island Village.
This is a special stopover for those who cherish Lao culture and wish to learn more about the customs, beliefs, and traditional architecture that have been closely tied to the land of Buon Don for generations.
A Lively Symbol of Lao Culture in the Central Highlands
The Lao Stilt House in Buon Don was constructed starting on July 10, 2024, and completed on December 10, 2024. It stands on elevated ground overlooking the gentle Serepok River.
The structure is designed in the authentic style of traditional Lao stilt houses, featuring graceful curved roofs, high and airy wooden floors, and a framework built entirely from precious natural forest wood.
Remarkably, the site enshrines a Buddha statue brought from Laos, representing reverence, gratitude, and the enduring spiritual bond between the two brother nations – Vietnam and Laos.
Therefore, the Lao Stilt House is not only a cultural treasure but also a place of spiritual significance, where the Lao community in Buon Don can gather, pray for peace, and share their cultural traditions.
Preserving Heritage and Promoting Sustainable Tourism
The establishment of the Lao Stilt House at the Buon Don Suspension Bridge marks an important milestone in preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the Lao community that has settled here since the late 19th century.
This project stands as a vivid testament to the cultural harmony between Vietnam and Laos while enriching Buon Don’s portfolio of cultural and spiritual tourism experiences.
When visiting, guests can:
